Production Experience

 

2001 - 2003                 Supervisor of Theatre Properties, Department of Music & Performing Arts Professions,

                                    Steinhardt School of Education, New York University

 

                                        Selected Duties:

 

·         Oversee all technical areas of all productions; approve designs, hire, train, and supervise appropriate technical personnel.

·         Advise on production calendars, budgets, and artistic staff.

·         Adminstrate scenic, lighting, and maintenance budgets.

·         Maintain the physical plant, operating procedures, and staffing of three theatres.

·         Coordinate with and report to producing program heads on the progress of productions.

·         Hire, train, and supervise an average of 25 student staff members.

·         Hire and supervise independent contractors.

·         Ensure code compliance with OSHA, RCNY, and EPA regulations, including hiring and training of fireguards, and periodic training of student and professional staff on safety procedures.

·         Advise, specify, and supervise ongoing renovations and capital improvements projects, especially upgrading lighting and sound capabilities and improving stock collections; research, hire, & coordinate appropriate vendors for those renovations.

·         Maintain material properties and scenic and costume shops.

·         Research and select appropriate vendors; order and coordinate goods and services from those vendors.

 

                                        Accomplished:

 

·         Tripled the number of dimmers for the main performing space (Frederick Loewe Theatre)  and converted to dimmer-per-circuit system.

·         Doubled the number of dimmers for the Black Box theatre.

·         Purchased new Expression 3 lighting board for the Loewe and trained staff on programming and use.

·         Installed Unison architectural control system in the Loewe

·         Repaired and refurbished house Clear-com system for the Loewe, including purchase of new equipment to double the system’s capacity. 

·         Purchased and installed new Clear-com systems for the Provincetown Playhouse and Black Box Theatre.

·         Re-built the sound capabilities of the Provincetown Playhouse, including the installation of new sound racks, amps, and equalizers.

·         Specified $80,000 lighting package for the Frederick Loewe Theatre.

·         Re-built scene shop

·         Created a costume shop from scratch, including obtaining all necessary equipment and supplies

·         Specified and purchased new spotlights

·         Created and maintained inventory system for tools, equipment, lighting, sound, props, and costumes for all three spaces.

·         Created the Theatre Operating Procedures for all three spaces, at the department Chair’s request.

·         Created complete drawings of all three spaces for designers.

·         Created technical theatre website for the Department, including the T.O.P., inventories, and space drawings.

·         Specified materials and construction for new theatre-style floor in Black Box Theatre.

·         Designed new seating system for Black Box Theatre.

 

 

   2001 – 2003                 Adjunct Instructor of Stagecraft and Lighting Design

 

                                        Selected Duties:

 

·         Instruct students in the materials, procedures, and practices in common use of today’s technical theatre arts.

·         Highlight alternative methods and materials and where and when those are used appropriately.

·         Train and supervise 25 – 35 students in their first technical experiences, including build crews and running crews.

·         Determine the crew needs of all shows produced by the Department of Music and staff them with student crews.

·         Instill a respect for the technical arts in performance-bound students.

·         Train scenic and lighting students in the safety precautions and everyday practices of scenic construction and light hangs.

·         Instruct and supervise student stage managers in their duties.

 

                                        Accomplished:

 

·         In cooperation with other Instructors of Stagecraft, Scenic Design, and technical arts, developed course proposal for the creation of Stage Management classes.

·         In cooperation with other Instructors, re-developed technical theatre structure, emphasizing running crew duties for new technicians, and build crew duties for experienced student technicians.

 

 

1999                            Managing Producer, Director’s Lab, Graduate Acting, Tisch School of the Arts

 

                                        Duties and achievements:

 

·         Under supervision of Ann Matthews, coordinated production of Director’s Lab season.

·         Setup and ran production meetings.

·         Coordinated designer’s efforts; assisted in obtaining materials and supplies.

·         Assisted in construction when necessary.

·         Coordinated rehearsals, including reserving outside space when necessary.

·         Created publicity, including a website with actor and director bios.

·         Created programs.

·         Oversaw front-of-house and box office operations, including reservations lines.

                                       

 

1995 - 1997                 Production  Assistant, Department of Theatre and Dance, Southwest Missouri State University

                                        ·      Design and publish all promotional posters, flyers, and print ads

                                        ·      Design and publish playbills for major department productions

                                        ·      Assist the Managing Producer

                                        ·      Assist Box Office Manager and supervise box office staff as necessary

                                        ·      Maintain communication between production and technical staffs

                                        ·      Teach Introduction to Theatre

                                        ·      Coordinate all front-of-house operations, house managers, and ushers

 

1997                            Associate Producer, Tent Theatre, Springfield, MO

 

                                        Selected Duties and achievements:

 

                                        ·      Solicit advertising for the season

                                        ·      Design and publish season program

                                        ·      Design and execute lobby displays of Tent Theatre history

                                        ·      Coordinate sales and concessions

·         Create permanent database of Tent Theatre subscribers and advertisers

·         Assist in coordinating 35^th Anniversary reunion

 

1996                            Resident Lighting Designer and Associate Technical Director, Tent Theatre, Springfield, MO

 

                                        Selected Duties:

 

                                        ·      Plan and coordinate delivery and construction of the Tent itself.

                                        ·      Assemble and install all lighting truss, stage, electrical systems, dimmers, technical areas, spotlight positions, and backstage areas.

                                        ·      Design and install repertory lighting for two musicals and a large comedy.

·         Supervise lighting and scenic crews.

                                        ·      Maintain and supervise technical operations of the Tent, including daily maintenance, preparation, nightly changeovers, and security.
